I have a month to get the garden ready for hummingbirds. Most of my plants were chosen for honeybees, and don't have deep nectaries that attract hummingbirds. There's also very little red, as I went heavy on the purple favored by bees. The exception was 'Jacob Kline' beebalm -- how could I not buy a plant named bee balm!? Unfortunately, I just divided it and it's not looking too good. In preparation for the July arrival of hummingbirds, I installed Penstemon 'Firebird', Salvia coccinea 'Lady in Red' and Salvia splendens 'Sizzler Red'. What else should I include in my hummingbird garden?
Fun factoid: Can bees the see the color red?
